Gren Pea Salad Recipe

Salad Recipe is one of part in all kinds of recipes in this page. If you want to make this recipe, although you must prepare and known about way of cooking this recipe.

Most green pea salads are of the English variety using boiled eggs and sweet pickles along with various vegetables and spices.

I will get to those later,
but first I will show you one I learned from a Polish fellow while travelling on a boat down the coast of British Columbia one stormy night about ten years ago. In his honour I call it Polish Pea Salad.

It was such a simple tasty salad and easy to make(we were in 15 foot seas at the time) that it is something I make often. This makes about 2-3 servings so you may want to double up on the ingredients.

Polish Pea Salad
1-can peas
1-2 slices of chopped onion
1/2-clove chopped garlic
1-spoon of mayonnaise

Drain water from canned peas and put in a bowl.
Add chopped onion and garlic and gently stir.
Add mayonnaise, gently mix.
If you are not a garlic fan you would be better off leaving it out as it has a bit of a bite after mixing with the dressing.

Hard Working People

GHANAIANS ARE a proud people. Pride which emanates from our political past, as the first nation south of the Sahara to have attained independence from our colonial masters. Indeed, we pride ourselves in so many endeavours of global achievements.

The most recent is the achievement of Kofi Annan, whose service to the world made every Ghanaian so proud. There are indeed so many other Ghanaians whose contributions in arts, sports, politics and the sciences, make all of us very proud to have come from this small country called Ghana.

As a result of these achievements by a few noble and committed Ghanaians, all of us raise our shoulders high and push our chests out whenever we meet our counterparts or for that matter, any group of people anywhere in the world.

At conferences, in educational institutions or any other competitions, the achievements of our predecessors become the yardstick by which we are measured.

As good and encouraging as the past achievements of our forebears are, we seem to be basking so much in their past glory that we forget that there is a future ahead of us. It is very common to hear, “the first black African nation to free itself from colonial rule”, and previously, “the only African country to have won the African Cup of Nations for the fourth time”, it goes on and on and on.

While we idle around and relish in our past, others who hitherto had no internationally acclaimed achievements to their credits, push on slowly but surely, into the club of modern day achievers, overtaking us.

One of the greatest challenges that confront us as a nation is the fact that our social and economic tastes have far outstripped our economic outputs.

The average Ghanaian is moving with the times, with regards to scientific and technological outputs and consumption.

The big question is what has been our original contribution to the expanded everyday consumption that science and technology has brought to our generation?

Move around any University campus in the United Kingdom, U.S.A and Germany or better still, any of the Asian Tigers, and find out how many of their students hold more than one mobile phone.

Quickly move to University campuses and other tertiary institutions in Ghana and casually observe the number of students who hold more than one mobile phone. Indeed in many instances, the number of mobile phones per student is equivalent to the number of mobile phone networks operating in the country at any given time.

Those same students complain of their inability to pay school fees. And this is a country that does not produce even sim cards. We live beyond our means.

People in authority, particularly our political leaders (I am not among ooo), confuse and contradict themselves on this very crucial issue of productivity, which is the basis of growth for any nation.

At some points in time, one would hear some politician praising workers for their hard work; at another time, that same person would be chastising workers for not doing enough in their work places.

The truth of the matter is we are not working hard enough as a people. Over the years, there has been a growing phenomenon which is counterproductive in our quest to nurture our economy. When I was growing up, many white coloured employees in this country spent their weekends engaged in real farming or backyard farming to support their income.

These days, we spend all our weekends at funerals, weddings, engagements and refreshments.

Technically, the weekend which is supposed to be a resting period for workers in the formal sector, becomes a 'working period' which make us more exhausted than the actual working week.

This is not to suggest that funerals should not be held and attended, that engagements and weddings of friends and relations should be ignored. You must remember that is , according Pertamina Said.It seems that many of us put a lot of energy and resources into some of the above activities than we put in productive work at our places of work. Some weddings, for example, can take all day.

From homes to the churches and to the refreshments, which nobody would want to miss. It may take the whole day but we wait patiently till the end. Do we put in the same time, patience and energy into our official work?

Many of us spend more money from Friday evenings through Sunday evenings, than we spend from Mondays to Fridays. We come back to the office on Mondays totally broke and exhausted. Productivity on Mondays in many organizations is far below expectation. In fact, in some Civil and Public Service institutions, workers add Mondays to their weekends.

Effects Smoking on Body

How Smoking Affects Your Body

How Smoking Affects Your Body There's hardly a part of the human body that's not affected by the chemicals in the cigarettes you smoke. Let's take a tour of your body to look at how smoking affects it.

Starting at the Top
As a smoker, you're at risk for cancer of the mouth. Tobacco smoke can also cause gum disease, tooth decay and bad breath. The teeth become unsightly and yellow. Smokers may experience frequent headaches. And lack of oxygen and narrowed blood vessels to the brain can lead to strokes.

Lungs and Bronchi
Moving down to your chest, smoke passes through the bronchi, or breathing tubes. Hydrogen cyanide and other chemicals in the smoke attack the lining of the bronchi, inflaming them and causing that chronic smoker's cough. Because the bronchi are weakened, you're more likely to get bronchial infections. Mucus secretion in your lungs is impaired, also leading to chronic coughing. Smokers are 10 times as likely to get lung cancer and emphysema as nonsmokers.

Smoking and the Heart
The effects of smoking on your heart are devastating. Nicotine raises blood pressure and makes the blood clot more easily. Carbon monoxide robs the blood of oxygen and leads to the development of cholesterol deposits on the artery walls. All of these effects add up to an increased risk of heart attack. In addition, the poor circulation resulting from cholesterol deposits can cause strokes, loss of circulation in fingers and toes and impotence.

Smoking and the Body's Organs
The digestive system is also affected. The tars in smoke can trigger cancer of the esophagus and throat. Smoking causes increased stomach acid secretion, leading to heartburn and ulcers. Smokers have higher rates of deadly pancreatic cancer. Many of the carcinogens from cigarettes are excreted in the urine where their presence can cause bladder cancer, which is often fatal. High blood pressure from smoking can damage the kidneys.

The Results
The health effects of smoking have results we can measure. Forty percent of men who are heavy smokers will die before they reach retirement age, as compared to only 18 percent of nonsmokers. Women who smoke face an increased risk of cervical cancer, and pregnant women who smoke take a chance with the health of their unborn babies.

But the good news is that when you quit smoking your body begins to repair itself. Ten years after you quit, your body has repaired most of the damage smoking caused. Those who wait until cancer or emphysema has set in aren't so lucky—these conditions are usually fatal. It's one more reason to take the big step and quit now.

Alcohol Abuse Essentials

Millions of people throughout the world engage in irresponsible and excessive drinking and exhibit drinking problems. Such drinking behavior is known as alcohol abuse. A lot of people apparently do not realize that binge drinking, which is a special form of alcohol abuse, can cause the person's body to shut down and stop functioning.

In short, binge drinking, in some instances, can result is the loss of an individual's life.
What Is Alcohol Abuse?

Though most people in the industrialized countries has heard about alcohol abuse, more than a few individuals have asked the following question: exactly what is alcohol abuse?

Alcohol abuse is a drinking pattern that frequently results in one or more of the following during a twelve-month time frame:

* The experience of recurring alcohol-related legal difficulties (such as multiple DUIs)

* Ongoing alcohol-related relationship issues

* The failure to attend to important responsibilities at school, work, or home

* Alcohol-related physical injury

If you abuse alcohol you are a "problem drinker" and you may be gambling with your life. How is this possible, you ask? Not unlike what happens when people abuse other drugs, many individuals who engage in binge drinking, who drink irresponsibly, or who on a regular basis abuse alcohol sooner or later may become alcohol dependent.

To be more specific, the more a person continues to binge drink and abuse alcohol the more likely he or she will eventually become an alcoholic. In short, when a problem drinker starts to crave alcohol, builds up a tolerance for alcohol, loses total control regarding drinking, and experiences alcohol withdrawal symptoms, he or she has made the regrettable transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol dependency.
What Is Binge Drinking?

The term "binge drinking" has become so commonly used that is worth asking the following question: what is binge drinking? Binge drinking is defined as having four or more drinks at one sitting for women or five or more drinks at one sitting for men. Why is binge drinking dangerous and extremely unhealthy and why does it lead to severe drinking problems?

Not only does binge drinking significantly increase the risk of serious injury or possibility of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, but it can also result in alcohol poisoning (also known as alcohol overdose), an outcome that can be deadly.

Unfortunately, once alcohol abuse starts, the behavior, in many instances, continues and can lead to the chronic, long-term negative consequences that are characteristic of excessive drinking. Also unfortunate are the number of documented cases of alcohol abuse among free-teens and teenagers and the alcohol abuse that takes place on college campuses.

The bottom line is this: binge drinking IS a form of alcohol abuse that can be fatal, even if the binging takes place "only" a few times per year. So, the next time someone asks you "what is binge drinking," you can say that it is a form of alcohol abuse that is characterized by a male having five or more drinks at one occasion or four drinks at one sitting for women---and point out that binge drinking can result in alcohol poisoning which can result in the loss of one's life.
